Jaiprakash Yadav was born in October 1956, and is the son of the late Sarju Ram Yadav. He lives in the village of Mahmoodpur, Bareri in Jaunpur District of eastern Uttar Pradesh in India. He is a small business man and his wife is a housewife. They have two children, Pushpa and Ramesh Chand Yadav.

Jaiprakash Yadav suffers from diabetes, and has been under treatment at the JSM Clinic since July 2010. He has received counselling from the panel of doctors who have been attending to him, and now knows how to keep his blood sugar under control, because of which he is able to lead a normal life.
