Pinkii has forgotten what it is to smile

Pinki is barely 10 years old, but she does not smile or giggle like other kids of her age.  She is a 3^rd grader who does not participate in school sports and social programs.  Tuberculosis has already taken a heavy toll on her.

Pinki’s father, Ajay, is unemployed and her mother is a housewife. She was born in the village of Madhopatti Tedhwa in the Jaunpur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh in India.

Pinki has a mild demeanor and a voice that betrays the pain inside. She has just started receiving treatment at the JSM Clinic during the month of December 2011.
